Globe Theatre Project
This project was based on designing posters for the Globe Theatre in London. The aim of the project was to design a promotional poster for three of Shakespeare's plays. I chose to design posters for MacBeth, Julius Caesar, and King Lear. I chose these plays as all of them are tragedies so I could keep a common theme of design across all three posters to make them look like a set. The theme I stuck to was having a dark background with a spotlight effect in the middle to emphasise dramatic effect, and I also kept the same font across all three posters. (Descriptions of the posters can be found underneath each image)
This poster is for one of Shakespeare's most famous plays, MacBeth. I used a crown as the focus of the poster to represent MacBeth's fortune to be King, and the three hands represent the witches in the play who show MacBeth his prophecy.
This poster is for another one of Shakespeare's plays, Julius Caesar. I decided to use a roman helmet as the focus of this poster to represent the setting of the play being in Ancient Rome, and the war that takes place at the end of the play. I also kept the crest of the helmet in its striking red colour to constitute the bloodshed throughout the play.
This is the final poster in the series for the Globe Theatre project and I designed it for the play King Lear. My initial idea for this poster was to use a crown as the focus but I decided otherwise as I didn’t want the design to look similar to the MacBeth poster I had previously made. Therefore, I used a castle as the focus and added some lightning to represent the storm in which the King finds himself in during the play.
